Michael is a global travel writer, art buff, and an avid naturalist. As the Chief Editor of National Geographic Magazine (NGM) China, Michael wrote and edited dozens of feature stories on environmental protection, heritage sites, folk art and cultural treasures, ethnic tribes, landscape and national parks. He also oversaw the publishing of NGM China’s digital journalism, books, maps, and travel and adventure media. In this role, Michael explored the urban centers and furthest remote reaches of the world’s most populous country. In collaboration with National Geographic photographers, Michael recently led travelers on an investigative journey down the Yangtze River to study the villagers’ ongoing struggle for cultural survival and to document endangered wildlife and plants. Before joining the National Geographic team, Michael was editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest in China, and worked for the Shanghai Daily. When he’s not traveling, Michael is an enthusiastic badminton player and passionate bookworm. After leading the Phillips Academy program in China, Michael will continue his adventures in South America and Antarctica.
